The Bog
About This Spot
Stepping into The Bog is like slipping into a well-kept secret nestled in the heart of downtown Scranton. The space, modest in size but rich with character, hums with a quiet energy that feels both familiar and refreshingly alive. It’s a spot where the night moves at its own unhurried pace, inviting guests to settle in and simply be part of the scene—whether that means listening to a local band spin on the jukebox or catching an impromptu dance that breaks out among the crowd.
The atmosphere here is an inviting blend of friendliness and authenticity, where a mix of longtime locals and visitors from nearby hotels gather without pretense. It’s the kind of place that feels like an extension of the community itself, supporting local music and performance and offering a backdrop for moments that feel genuine rather than staged. There’s warmth in the way bartenders and patrons exchange knowing smiles, a subtle sense of belonging that makes the space more than just a bar.
Drinks at The Bog aren’t just poured—they’re part of the experience. Whether you’re nursing a well-chosen craft beer, savoring a classic Rum and Coke, or enjoying something fresher and lighter, the selection reflects a thoughtful approach to simple pleasures. It’s clear that quality matters here, with a nod toward unique finds amid familiar favorites, making each sip a gentle discovery within the hum of friendly conversation and lively rhythms.
In essence, The Bog is a gathering point that moves beyond the typical city bar. It’s familiar without feeling stagnant, eclectic without pretension, and welcoming in a way that encourages both new friendships and the comfort of old ones. A place where time slows just enough at midnight to remind you why coming here feels like coming home, even if it’s your first time through the door.

The only bar in the apple of my eye in downtown Scranton. A universal place to feel welcome and supported by community and make/ find friends. Frequently, it's the best place to be at midnight. I love the Bog sm

Great local bar just a few blocks from hotels, a mix of college and older folks which as an older folk myself, I appreciated! They have a great selection of draft beer (imported German beer and I spied Fiddlehead from VT!) and well above the usual suspects of spirits you get at a typical bar. Fast and friendly service and coming from Philly/NYC prices, SO affordable! Highly recommend if you're in the area.

I've only been here one time, but this place is great. I didn't know what to expect from the outside. I thought I was entering another typical Scranton city bar. Little did I know, this place is really supportive of the local arts and performance scene. Just walk over to the jukebox... You immediately notice its all local bands! I've been to many bars in my day, but haven't seen anything like this before. If you're looking for a warm and inviting atmosphere with a friendly staff (and some adult beverages) I highly recommend this place.

Rudy made my Tuesday a real treat. A hootenaney if you will. The DJ was cordial. Quite the interesting time. A wild Berto appeared with flexing but was rather adorable underneath that hard shell he portrayed. I found the man with crazy pants delightful, personable, and endearing. The establishment stays the same but the clientele are a rotating buffet.

Another stop recommended by several friends who used to be locals - and it sure lives up! Met Brian & Bob, two of the three owners - took some whiskey with the boys and got in a game of Golden Tee! Incredibly priced drinks and very friendly staff and patrons. Further, the walls are decorated with local artists' works that you can actually purchase, local supporting local!

What a great place to enjoy a pint. Our bartender was top notch and very helpful. And he nailed the pour. Original looking and just great to sit at a table, enjoy some drinks and have some great conversations...and you didn't have to yell over bad music. You must make this a stop, especially if you're planning a visit.
